Two caught after business robbery

Two suspects arrested for business robbery.

Cash of R400 could not save two suspected robbers from being arrested by the Mamelodi west police.

Mamelodi police caught the two men aged between 21 and 29 after a business robbery.

They also faced charges of bribery and of defeating the ends of justice said Mamelodi West police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.

Five men entered a shop in Denlyn Mall, Mamelodi West around 11:00 on Monday.

Two of them pushed the security guard and the staff to the backroom, telling them this was a robbery.

“The robbers loaded cellphones into two bags and fled in different directions,” said Maheso.

“Police were alerted and on arrival noticed one of the suspects running towards a green VW golf which drove away.”

A chase ensued and the car was stopped.

The police only found the driver of the car and arrested him.

“It was then discovered that the robbers were also using a white Nissan NP 200 which they left at the scene when the police arrived,” said Maheso.

“Inside the vehicle were cellphone numbers which the police used to trick the driver to come back,” said Maheso.

On his arrival, he confessed to the crime and offered the police R400 bribe.

The two men would appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court soon. The search for his three accomplices was continuing, Maheso said.
