Police are still investigating a case of murder after a foetus was found in Elandspoort last week.
Residents found the male foetus in bushes early Tuesday last week, police said.
Spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said on Thursday, the mother was taken in last week, for questioning.
“We are still investigating the case. The mother was questioned for two days last week but has since been released.”
Pretoria West CPF chairperson Thesigan Pillay said it was not the first time such an incident had happened.
“We are urging the station commander and the Pretoria West police to do something to the mothers who abandon their babies. We have had a few incidents like this and no one is being held accountable,” he said.
Pillay said the woman was found with the help of residents.
If mothers do not want to keep their babies, they can take them to the Tshwane Home of Hope in Sunnyside.
Tahiyya Hassim of the organisation said mothers could drop their babies anonymously.
“Tshwane Home of Hope has erected a ‘baby wall’ in Sunnyside, where mothers who do not want their newborn babies can drop them off anonymously,” she said.
