A suspected thief was arrested after a homeowner spotted him on a wireless CCTV system.
The homeowner was showing off his wireless CCTV system on his smartphone to colleagues at work Friday afternoon when they noticed the suspicious-looking person skulking around the homeowner’s garden.
Bull Security spokesperson French Jooste said security officers responded to the homeowner’s distress calls.
“The homeowner was demonstrating his new CCTV system on his smartphone to colleague at work when they spotted the man walking around in his garden,” said Jooste.
“Before he could do anything else his domestic worker called him and said someone was walking around in the garden. He then called us and we responded.”
When security officers arrived at the scene the loitering man spotted them and confronted the officers. The suspect also sprayed security officers with pepper spray.
The officers managed to tackle and subdue him. Then they called the Lyttelton police to arrest the man.
“We also found some house-breaking tools and several cellphones in his possesion,” said Jooste.
