New probe into snake and petrol pastors
An interfaith organisation reopens investigation into the snake and petrol pastors.
Pretoria’s notorious pastors could be forced to stop practicing as men of the cloth if an investigation by the interfaith council proves they fed congregants real snakes or petrol.
The two men, Penuel “Snake Pastor” Mnguni and Daniel “Petrol Pastor” Lesego have been under investigation since January and National Interfaith Council president Bishop Daniel Matebesi told Rekord this week, the investigation was close to completion.
Daniel Lesego runs the Rabboni Centre Ministries and Mnguni the End Times Disciples Ministries.
Motebatsi said the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CLR) was “too soft” because it allowed the two pastors to continue with their work.
He said the council was worried they had been allowed to practice despite the findings of the (CLR) that “it was clear that people’s belief systems were abused at the two churches”.
Matebesi said: “Those people [pastors] are not representing us as people of faith. A snake is dangerous. It has poison. Petrol is also dangerous. It is something you pour in your car.”
Both pastors recently appeared before the CLR to account for their churches’ conduct after they made headlines for feeding congregants rodents or making them ingest petrol.
“After their appearance, we began conducting our own investigation and are waiting for a report on whether it was a real snake and real petrol,” he said.
He said their investigation started in January and he hoped it would be concluded in the next few weeks.
When Lesego appeared before the CLR last year, he said he was instructed by God to give people “food for their soul” while last month, Mnguni told the CLR the rodents were chocolate.
Calling his action a true demonstration of God’s power that God had given people the power to turn anything into food.
Mnguni also fed congregants snakes, rats, ants, hair weaves and pieces of cloth, told them to take off their clothes and rode them as if they were horses.
“How do we know they are not still giving people petrol and snakes?” asked Matebesi.
