Drunken cop shoots man

The victim was rushed to hospital.

An Olievenhoutbosch police officer shot and wounded a man during an argument in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The officer was apparently drunk when he pulled his service pistol, said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).

Spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said the victim was hit in the leg.

“He was rushed to hospital and the policeman was immediately arrested,” said Raburabu.

“The Olievenhoutbosch police arrested the officer on a charge of attempted murder.”

Raburabu said an investigation into the shooting was continuing.

The officer would appear in court soon.
