Suspected thieves caught after dramatic chase

Security companies joined forces to chase and arrest three men after a burglary in Centurion.

Three men were caught after a high-speed chase by security companies on the R55 in Centurion on Wednesday.

Monitor Net spokesperson Etienne Louw said this happened after Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC) broadcast an alert after reports of a burglary in Rooihuiskraal around lunch time.

He said Monitor Net’s reaction officers arrived on the scene and found a silver Audi.

“The Audi sped away and the reaction officers gave chase from Panorama Street. After several turns, Orange Fox Security joined the chase to the R55 and overtook the fleeing car.”

The men tried to reverse and bumped into a Monitor Net vehicle before coming to a stop.  The fugitives jumped out of the car and fled in different directions.

“Orange Fox arrested one of them near the scene while Monitor Net caught another. The third man was apprehended by Scorpion Security and Copwatch,” Louw said.

Stolen goods and a large amount of cash were recovered.

Louw could not confirm if the Audi was also stolen.

“We noticed the car’s registration number and the licence disc did not match but police are still investigating. The genuine number plates were inside the vehicle.”

CCC said the house-breaking happened on Sandgrouse Street and electronics were taken.
