Police have launched a manhunt for two men and two women who stole R50 000 from a pensioner in Rosslyn.
Provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the victim allegedly opened the doors to his Soshanguve home last year, to people claiming to be officials from the Department of Labour.
“Two suspects entered the house while the other two remained in the vehicle. He was informed that he needed to transfer his pension money to another account.”
The 58-year-old man accompanied the bogus officials to a bank in Rosslyn where he was told to apply for a new bank card, he said.
“One of the suspects convinced him to withdraw R50 000 to buy building materials as he was renovating his house. After withdrawing the money, they drove with him and left him in Hercules. He never saw them again.”
An image of one of the women was captured by the bank’s CCTV cameras.
“Anyone who may know her whereabouts may contact Warrant Officer Marumo Motshoane on 012-541-1005 or 079-962-4352 or anonymous information may be forwarded at Crime Stop on 08600-10111 at all hours.”
