Electronic goods worth thousands were stolen when a commune in Hatfield was burgled on Friday afternoon.
Berno du Preez, a pilot who lives with two students in the commune, says goods worth about R120 000 were stolen.
“They [burglars] took laptops, a TV, computers, iPods and other electronic ware,” said du Preez.
The two students were not at home.
Du Preez said residents apprehended one suspect who was later released.
The Hatfield Village Community Watch wrote on its Facebook page the property’s motorised gate was lifted.
“A strong security door was forced open, a locked wooden door was broken and the house was ransacked.”
Police spokesperson captain Coba Brits confirmed a case was opened at the Brooklyn police station.
“No one has been arrested yet and the case is under investigation.”
