NEWSFLASH: Car burns at busy intersection

Corsa bakkie catches fire in morning traffic.

An Opel Corsa bakkie caught fire while stationary behind a traffic light in Jean Avenue in Centurion on Thursday morning.

Orange Fox spokesperson Ruan Heyns said the bakkie caught fire at an intersection before the N14 onramp.

He said the fire was most likely caused by a short circuit in the car’s engine.

“Tow truck drivers, who were first on scene, managed to contain the fire while they waited for metro police and emergency services to arrive,” said Heyns.

“Fortunately nobody was injured and I did not need to treat anybody.”

He said the fire was contained to the car’s engine bay.

It was later towed away.

Traffic was not severely affected and is back to normal.
