The security company guarding the Highveld Shopping Centre in Centurion says it is yet to find evidence to suggest a local resident was attacked in the centre’s parking lot.
Frans Maritz (58), a Highveld resident had alleged he was attacked and stabbed in the face and side of his torso in an attempted robbery last Friday night.
But Sirius Security said after an investigation, it could not find any evidence the attack took place.
Spokesperson Ulricha Vermaak, said: “Having checked CCTV footage prior, during and after the stated time frame – no visuals could be located of the victim either entering or leaving the Spar.”
“…no witnesses have been located who had either seen or heard anything during this time frame.”
She added that no blood could be found anywhere in the parking lot.
“Two establishments were open during this time, the Spar which was in the process of closing, and Birdies and Bogies. No witnesses have been located who had either seen or heard anything during this time frame.”
Though Maritz had not been willing to speak to the media yet, his daughter previously said he had been discharged from hospital and was recovering at home.
Vermaak said the centre will sharpen up security at the centre to give shoppers peace of mind.
“We will also work alongside the Lyttelton police to identify crime hotspots in the area.”
She also invited witnesses to the attack to report what they saw by calling 0861-466-067.
