Murder-consipiracy accused ANC councillor released on bail
Arrested ANC ward councillor has been released on a R3 000 bail after being charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
An ANC ward councillor who was arrested and charged with murder conspiracy, has been released on bail.
Councillor Joel Malebogo Sindane of ward 21, Mabopane has been released on R3 000 bail after appearing in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court.
He was released last Thursday after he had been arrested by Pretoria North police at his Mabopane home on 15 March.
He first appeared in Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on 17 March when he was remanded in custody and denied bail. He will appear in court again on 3 May.
The ANC Tshwane region confirmed they were aware of his case but have not taken a decision to suspend him.
He continues to receive his salary.
“There are two issues involved here. A legal issue and a moral issue. We have to allow the legal process to take its course before commenting further on the issue,” said Tshwane ANC spokesperson, Tebogo Joala.
Sindane is alleged to have been involved in a conspiracy to kill 11 of his party members in Mabopane, who had been on a secret hit list.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phathlane confirmed that councillor Sindane, who had been arrested by the Pretoria North police was facing a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
The ANC Tshwane caucus was expected to deliberate on the future of the councillor with the party this week.
“We are still waiting for information on what exactly his charges are all about. We will only be able to release a statement once were know exactly what is happening,” he said.
