Corrupt TMPD officer still in custody

A Tshwane metro police officer to appear in court soon after he was detained for bribery at the weekend.

A Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) officer was still in custody after he was arrested for soliciting a bribe on the N1 near Hammanskraal at the weekend.

TMPD spokesperson Inspector Phindile Molefe said the 33-year-old officer stopped a truck driver at the Pumulani toll plaza on Saturday, and demanded R200.

“The officer asked the driver to call the truck owner to bring the money. After the driver contacted the owner, the owner alerted the TMPD investigation unit.”

A TMPD investigator was sent to meet the truck owner and give him marked bank notes, to give to the corrupt officer.

“The owner and the officer arranged to meet at the Carousel toll plaza where he handed him the marked notes. After leaving the scene, he alerted the TMPD’s investigator and gave him a detailed description of the officer.”

The TMPD investigator found the described officer and the R200 in marked notes in his possession, Molefe said.

“He was immediately arrested and detained at the Hammanskraal police station. He will appear in court soon.”
