An ATM in Celtisridge was bombed in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Orange Fox security spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said this happened just after 03:00 in the morning.
“Security guards at the shopping centre rushed to the ATM when they heard the noise,” said Jacobs.
“When the bombers saw the guards they apparently fled without taking any money.”
She said no one was hurt.
“The ATM wasn’t seriously damaged. It seems that these guys were amateurs. ATM bombers are also usually more heavily armed.”
Centurion Concerned Citizens spokesperson Hannes du Buisson also said that the bombers appeared to have been novices.
“We urge the community to be vigilant and to never inspect these type of blasts themselves, rather call on police to assist,” said Du Buisson.
Wierdabrug police could not be reached for comment.
