State security case continues
The matter against three men linked to the theft of 17 million in foreign currency stolen at the State Security Agency in December was postponed after the trio appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Three men accused of stealing money from the State Security Agency appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Albert Ramabele, Khayalethyu Mgatyelwa and William Mmotong would be back in court in June, said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi
He was still to confirm the precise date.
All three men face charges of theft and breaking and entering.
Ramabele is out on bail.
He said police were still investigating the theft.
Ramabele, Mgatyelwa and Mmotong, all employees of the State Security Agency, were arrested after 17 million in foreign currency was stolen from the agency.
The crime was committed at the agency’s headquarters in the east of Pretoria between Christmas and Boxing Day.
Mmotong and Mgatyelwas were the first to be arrested.
Ramabele later handed himself over to police after a reward for information of his whereabouts was offered.
The arrests came after CCTV footage showed a man walking through the State Security corridors at the time of the theft.
Mulaudzi said in January there was strong reason to believe the theft was an inside job.
