Man arrested for threatening black people and Zuma

A man remained in custody for inciting violence against black people and the president.

Police have arrested a Pretoria man for inciting violence as he posted death threats on his Facebook page to President Jacob Zuma.

According to reports, 53-year-old Leon du Plessis threatened to kill black people including the president.

He was arrested on 3 March at his farm in Bronkhorstspruit after police received a tip-off.

During his arrest, police also found weapons, ammunitions and explosives.

Du Plessis said he was merely conveying God’s message and claimed the weapons and ammunition found in his home were to protect himself and his neighbours from farm attacks.

“He threatened to kill the president, to go to a location and kill black people and commit murder. This was admitted by the accused on his Facebook page,” Prosecutor Tiisetso Solly Leballo said.

He is also facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and explosive devices.

The state opposed his bail last week, stating that Du Plessis was a danger to the public.

He will reappear in court next Thursday.
