Mamelodi came to a standstill as many people came to attend the funeral of Zinhle Lizzy Ndala Saturday morning.
The ever-smiling Zinhle was buried at the Hatherly cemetery and the funeral service was held at the International Assemblies of God that started at 08:00 and from there proceeded to the grave.
The funeral was attended by residents, the ANC Women’s League, youth of Mamelodi, pupils, church groups, bike clubs and the Mamelodi Taxi Association.
Though it was a sad day, residents sang and said they are celebrating the life of Zinhle who made the community unite.
The funeral was also attended by the Tshwane MMC for social development Eulanda Mabusela.
The ever-smiling Zinhle was finally buried after spending almost two months at the state mortuary.
She was found dead in a storm drain next to the Rethabile sports grounds a few blocks from her home in Mamelodi East Section SNS on February 19.
She was reported missing on 4 January. Zinhle was last seen playing with her friends in the street but never returned home.
The little girl was a grade 2 pupil at Zakhele Primary School and was ready to start grade 3 when she went missing.
The little girl’s dream was to become a doctor when she grows up and wanted to bring change to the world.
She will be missed by both her parents Vusi and Thoko Ndala, brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles, grandfathers, grandmothers, friends, classmates at school, teachers, church members and the community.
The community vowed to work together with the police to help solve the case of Zinhle.
