UPDATE: Man recovering after shooting

Police investigate after a man shoots himself.

A man is recovering after he accidentally shot himself on a farm in Boschkop in the east of Pretoria at the weekend.

Boschkop police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said police were alerted on Sunday afternoon.

“The shooting was reported but no case was opened,” she said.

Van der Merwe said the man was in hospital and police were investigating why the firearm discharged.

The man was in a critical condition when medics arrived on the scene, said Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

Botha said it was believed the man dropped the firearm around 16:20, causing it to accidentally go off.

The man was stabilised on the scene and airlifted to hospital.
