A bogus security college boss in Mabopane was arrested on Tuesday for defrauding clients.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested for fraud after allegedly taking money from 20 people under false pretences.
Police spokesperson, Constable Petunia Chabangu said police raided Blacken Security College at Mabopane Central City around 11:30 on Tuesday, and arrested the owner.
“He defrauded a total of 20 would-be security officers who trained at his college,” said Chabangu.
The man allegedly told them he was in partnership with Sebongile Security who were hiring guards to protect an Eskom substation in Mpumalanga. He promised them those jobs and collected money from from them, reported for registration.
“According to the victims, he even told them to bring their luggage on Friday last week, as they were going to stay there and demanded R200 for registration from each of the 10 males and 10 females,” said Chabangu.
On the day they were supposed to leave, the would-be guards waited from 07:30 to 16:30 for the man.
“He never showed up and his cellphone was off,” said Chabangu.
He appealed to anyone who might have fallen victim to the suspect’s scam to contact Detective Warrant Officer Siko at the Loate Police Station.
The suspect was expected to appear in Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.
