Shooting victim speaks out
Man recovering in hospital after being in ICU for days.
A Pretoria North man shot and wounded in a recent robbery spoke about his ordeal this week.
“I refused to give them my laptop and money and a fight ensued. I was shot in the back,” he told Rekord from his hospital bed. He asked not to be named.
The robbery took place last Friday outside his house in Leon Street, Tileba.
“I was just on my way from the bank when I parked my car in front of the gate. As I was taking out my laptop bag, a strange vehicle with three occupants approached me,” he said.
“Two men got out and one pointed a firearm at me. He instructed me to give him money and my laptop.”
The man, however, resisted and was shot in the process.
“The three men eventually took my money and laptop bag before fleeing the scene,” the man said.
Family members heard the shots and rushed to his aid. The man was taken to hospital where he spent four days in the intensive care unit.
He said he expected to be discharged on Friday.
Pretoria North police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlhane said the three robbers were still on the run.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha earlier said the shooting happened around 11:45 in Leon Street, Tileba.
“Reports from the scene indicate the man was shot at his gate. Paramedics found him in a critical condition.”
