Brothers arrested in Winterveldt

Brothers were arrested in Winterveldt on Wednesday.

The brothers believed to have been behind the spate of armed robberies in Winterveldt have been arrested.

The duo aged 27 and 36 were arrested on Wednesday, after residents tipped the police off.

Police spokesperson, Constable Petunia Chabangu said the police arrested the suspects at their residence after a search of the premises.

“An unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered,” she said.

A ballistic test will be done on the Gabilondo pistol to determine if it was used in any other unsolved crime.

“They [brothers] are expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon where they will face a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Chabangu.

More charges could be added pending the test, police said.
