One message to fight crime – ADT
The media and ADT formatted ways to better fight crime.
A security firm and the media gathered at a networking session in the east of Pretoria to discuss ways of combating crime identified to be at unacceptably high levels.
ADT alongside media companies met at the Afroboer café on the corner of Lynnwood and Meerlust roads to discuss ways in which the community, media companies and security firms could work hand-in-hand to share information at an accelerated rate to fight crime.
“Crime remains at unacceptably high levels and examples such as house burglaries, driveway hijackings and armed robbery form part of a large list of examples used to identify the crime as an ongoing problem in most suburbs,” said ADT community development manager Phillip Uys.
Uys said to win the fight against crime residents had to be highly informed.
He said it was important for residents to know the kind of useful technology available to be used to better care for one’s safety out there.
Uys said it was imperative that both the communities and media work together to filter one united message at any particular point.
Another community development manager Maurice Malan confirmed the need for one unique message to be shared in communities.
Malan said with the media’s assistance both security firms and communities could share information about crime hotspots at a rapid pace assisting residents to know which areas are targeted.
“Most criminal activities migrate and with everyone’s assistance, adequately timed warnings could help residents be more vigilant when the crime gets to their area,” he said.
Valid tips to communities now and then could assist residents to know exactly what to do in a dangerous situation, said Malan.
The networking session ended with a solid agreement on better information filtering between security company ADT and media companies in getting news to those who need it most in time.
