Jacaranda DJ confronts criminals in his house

Another Jacaranda DJ becomes victim to crime.

Thabiso ‘Mack’ Rapapali, a radio DJ on Jacaranda FM, almost became the second DJ at the station to fall victim to robbers.

Last week, his newsreader colleague Dianne Broodryk was tied up and robbed in her home in The Reeds.

Rapapali, who also lives in The Reeds, surprised two would-be robbers around 05:15 on Sunday morning.

He says he had woken up at 04:00 as usual to get ready and at 05:15, in the corridor inside his home encountered two men skulking around.

“I don’t think they expected to see me,” he said.

The two immediately turned tail and fled through a small gate out the complex.

He says he set after them firing a warning shot.

Rapapali says he is thankful to still be alive.

“My wife and daughter were both in the house,” he says.

“In the moment, the only thing I could think of was keeping them safe.”

He has however not opened a case with the Wierdabrug police, saying he will investigate himself.

“Ooh, I will be ready for them if they try this again. I’ve got a big cake and some rooibos tea ready,” he says laughing.

It is not known if the two men are the same two who robbed Broodryk.
