‘Downs dumped out of the Nedbank Cup by Pirates

Sundowns pay the price after letting Pirates off the hook.

Mamelodi Sundowns lost 2-0 to a disciplined Orlando Pirates side on Saturday evening at the Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville.

The two giants faced off in the Nedbank quarter-finals.

Despite a one man advantage for 19 minutes of regular minutes and additional 30 minutes, ‘Downs couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Sundowns dominated the proceedings but Pirates shot stopper Brighton Mhlongo was brilliant in the post denying the Pretoria side the lead on numerous occasions.

It looked like Sundowns would win the game when Edwin Gyimah received a redcard but ‘Downs were unable to capitalise.

Two quick counter-attacks saw the Soweto giants score two goals in three minutes to book themselves into the semi-final of the Nebank Cup.
