Pupils fight substance abuse

Substance abuse is destroying the future leaders of this country.

Mogale primary school pupils in Mamelodi East stood up against substance abuse on Friday.

They did so in an effort to stamp out drunk driving and intoxicated pedestrians on the roads.

The pupils took to the streets, warning motorists against the folly of drunk driving. Pedestrians were told about the danger of drinking while out on the streets.

Pamphlets warning against substance abuse were also handed to motorists and pedestrians.

The drive was organized by the chairman of Lesedi ke Bokamoso organization, Modise Mokhondo, under the theme #drugs must fall campaign.

Modise said the campaign became vital because there were people introducing pupils to drugs and getting them to start smoking at an early age.

“That is why we are taking this substance abuse campaign to primary (schools) and also to warn the pupils not to smoke and the danger of it,” said Mkhondo.

“These drugs are destroying the future leaders of this country and they give them drugs while they are young at school.”

He pleaded with drug pushers not to provide young children with drugs because it would lead them to crime and destroy their future.

The campaign was a continuous programme to be taken to primary and high schools.
