Counterfeit accused gets bail

Fake R200 and R100 bank notes were apparently found in a black bag in the boot his car.

A Cameroonian man accused of being in possession of counterfeit money was granted R3000 bail in the Specialised Commercial Court on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old was arrested by Sunnyside police after fake R200 and R100 bank notes were apparently found in a black bag in the boot of his car on the corner of Greef and Kotze streets.

He was taken to his flat where his co-accused, a 26-year-old South African woman, was found in possession of more fake bank notes.

Sunnyside police spokesperson Sergeant Asnath Malatsi said the two failed to explain how they acquired the money.

The 26-year-old was granted R3000 bail when she appeared in court last week Friday, while the Cameroonian man was denied bail on the same day.

The man is expected to appear in again court on Tuesday, 7 June 2016.
