Alleged murderer appeared in court without lawyer
The man accused of killing Hurchel Jacobus-Ramazan was still behind bars after he appeared for his bail hearing without a legal representative.
Bruce Steenkamp, the man accused of killing an Eersterust man, will spend another week in jail after he failed to appear in court with a lawyer on Monday.
Steenkamp (44) handed himself in at Eersterust police station on 11 April for allegedly killing Hurchel Jacobus-Ramazan the day before.
Police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo said Steenkamp will reappear for his bail hearing once he has found a legal representative.
“He is still in custody and his next court date will be confirmed once he has found a lawyer.”
According to a reliable source, Jacobus-Ramazan (34) was shot three times on Niger Avenue after a drug-related dispute with Steenkamp.
The victim’s uncle, Christopher Jacobus, told Rekord on Tuesday the family had made peace with the murder.
“We have forgiven him (Steenkamp) and it is not us that is punishing him but the legal system. His mother is still trying to get over it as there are now rumours in the community of how this happened.”
