Police hunting Centurion hijackers

The hijackers shot a man in the arm and fled with his car in Centurion.

Police have launched a manhunt for two men who shot and wounded a man in Centurion during a hijacking.

Spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto said the 28-year-old man was on his way to deposit money at a shopping centre in Olievenhoutbosch on Monday morning in a white Nissan Almera.

He was approached and stopped by two armed men, he said.

“One pointed at him with a firearm and they shot him in the right arm. He was also severely assaulted and suffered head injuries.”

An undisclosed amount of money was taken and the hijackers fled with the Almera, Moloto said.

“Police recovered some of the cash left at the scene and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.”

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the man suffered serious injuries.

“Paramedics managed to stabilise the wounded man on scene before transporting him. He is recovering in a Johannesburg hospital.”

Moloto said a hijacking and attempted murder was being investigated.

“The police appeal to the community at large or any person to assist with information that can lead to the arrest. They should not approach the suspects but rather contact their nearest police station.”
