Prophet out on bail

Prophet out on R2 000 bail.

Prophet Eric Shikobela and his two coaccused briefly appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing today (Tuesday).

The prophet was arrested on Sunday, on charges of malicious damage to property, imputing witchcraft and incitement to violence and defamation of character among others.

Since all three accused had no pending criminal cases, the judge released them on R2 000 bail each and the case was remanded till 30 May.

The charges stem from an attack on three houses of people believed to satanists in Mamelodi West, Section B3 last Wednesday night.

Residents went on the rampage after being shown the confessions made by the three to the prophet who had recorded these on video.

Shikobela is the leader of the Holy Faith Family Church in Mamelodi West.

In last week’s edition Rekord published a story about a young woman and a 16-year-old girl who made confessions, also recorded, that they belonged to a satanist society. The two said asked for help because they wanted out of this society.

The satanists were accused of killing people to capture their souls.

The prophet had then invited this congregants to witness the confessions in which four people were identified as being leaders of this society. Three of them were attacked in their homes by angry residents.Residents had said they wanted to destroy the houses and curse the leaders and their families.

Two of the identified leaders of the satanist group were in their homes at the time of the attack and were rescued by the police.

Mamelodi West police spokesperson, Captain Johannes Maheso confirmed the prophet’s arrest.
