Man arrested after assault at McDonald’s

A man believed to have attacked a couple at a fastfood outlet was arrested on Tuesday.

A man was taken into custody recently for the assault on a couple at a fast food outlet last month.

James Brewer (50) and Chantal Beyers (27) previously told Rekord how they were viciously assaulted at McDonald’s Hamilton Street by an unknown man.

Sunnyside police investigated the complaint and, with camera footage supplied by the fast food outlet, arrested a man on Tuesday.

“We are happy the man has been caught and he can finally face up to what he’s done,” Brewer told Rekord on Wednesday.

Injuries the couple suffered after the attack, they said, took several weeks to heal along with the emotional trauma.

The couple had previously declined to see the security footage of the attack as they felt it would add to their trauma.

Brewer says he arranged another meeting with representatives of McDonald’s SA to finally see the footage for himself.

The couple previously explained to Rekord how a confrontation between Brewer and the suspect ensued at the McDonald’s branch.

The other man had apparently punched Beyers in her face after she tried to break up the fight.

Brewer explained how he was mercilessly assaulted as he tried to protect Beyers.

They told Rekord that the staff at the outlet had done nothing to assist or help, but did mop up Beyers’ blood after the attack.

Brewer said they laid a complaint of aggravated assault and attempted murder against the accused.

The suspect is said to appear in court soon.
