Do you know his family?
Police are still searching for relatives or the parents of a deaf and mute boy who was dropped off at the police station this week.
The deaf and mute boy that was dropped off at Mamelodi police station was sent to social workers as no one had come forward to collect him, Mamelodi police said on Friday.
The boy, estimated to be aged between 12 and 13, was dropped off by an anonymous person on Wednesday night.
The person who dropped him off did not leave any details and police could not confirm where he was found before he was brought in, spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said.
“We took him to social welfare so they can help find him a place of safety and his parents or guardians. We are still appealing to anyone who can assist to contact us,” he said.
Maheso said they found a piece of paper in the boy’s pockets which had the names John and Irene written on them.
“We contacted the Lyttelton police, who cover the Irene area in Centurion, to find out if they know of any missing deaf and mute boy but they have no such case.”
He said several syringes were also found on the boy, presumable for medication he was on.
He was dressed in grey pants, a light blue shirt, black Converse All Stars sneakers and a jacket with the North West government’s department of sports, arts and culture branding.
“We appeal to anyone with information or who can assist to call the Mamelodi West police station on 012-812-9056 or 012-812-9000.”
