Libido booster could be dagga
Police reveal that dagga is being sold as a herbal mix at stores and sex shops.
Packets containing a natural herbal blend to boost the libido might actually be containing dagga.
Police said this was another trick by drug dealers to discreetly sell their supplies on the streets and even in stores.
Wonderboompoort police officer Warrant Officer Jacques Oosthuizen told Rekord about the dagga being sold in packets that originally contained a “herbal blend” mix.
“These ‘herbal blend’ packets are usually sold at sex shops, and is mostly being used by young men who either smoke it or use it to make tea,” said Oosthuizen.
“The herbal mix is essentially sold to help boost the user’s libido and help them relax — much like the more addictive dagga leaves.”
A 19-year-old man was recently taken into custody at the Wonderboompoort police station, after he was caught with a herbal blend packet containing dagga.
“It’s almost impossible to tell the herbal mix and dagga apart,” said Oosthuizen.
“The herbal blend containing: Ceylon blend, St John’s Wort and Tendu leaves (according to the ingredients on the packet) looks exactly like dagga.”
Only by having it tested by drug labs could the true nature of the substance be revealed.
“On looks alone, even some of our experts were unsure which was the herbal mix and which was the dagga, ” Oosthuizen said.
“This is very worrying as people buying the seemingly harmless herbs, might actually be buying dagga. We find that school kids, especially, are also getting hold of these herbal blend packs.”
Oosthuizen said anyone caught in possession of drugs could be arrested and charged for possession of illegal substance.
“We ask parents to also keep an eye on their kids and stay alert to substances like these.”
