The employee is expected to appear in court soon after defrauding Port St John's Municipality.

A bank employee believed to be in his 20s was arrested for fraud in Silverton on Friday.

Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato confirmed the arrest but said the man had been transferred to the Port St Johns.

“Port St Johns police came to collect him so we are not yet sure when he would appear in court,” Sepato said.

According to an eyewitness, the man’s belongings were seized by the police during arrest.

“They took his laptop, his access card and all other things,” said the eyewitness.

Port St Johns police spokesperson Captain Mduduzi Godlwana said the man was arrested for allegedly defrauding Port St. Johns Municipality of millions rands.

“The man arrived on Friday with police from Pretoria and is currently in the holding cells. He allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money from Port St Johns Municipality,” Godlwana said.

He added that the man would appear in the Port St Johns Magistrate’s Court tomorrow [Tuesday].

The bank in which the man worked at the time of his arrest was unavailable for comment.
