Double murder accused back in court after evaluation
The man accused of killing two men appeared in court after psychiatric evaluation.
The Hawks officer who killed two men in a jealous rage will reappear in the Palm Springs Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing later this month.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Robert Raburabu said the man appeared in court on Monday, after a psychiatric evaluation.
“He said he had a mental problem, which could be the reason behind the killing. After the mental evaluation, he applied for bail and will appear in court on 17 May,” he said.
The 35-year-old man allegedly went to his estranged wife’s house last month, where an argument ensued.
“They had verbal exchanges and the woman had to run for her life because the policeman pointed a firearm at her and fired shots in her direction. She managed to escape unharmed.”
The man allegedly went to Thokoza in Ekurhuleni, where he shot and killed a 28-year-old man at his residence.
“He continued to the second man’s residence, also in Thokoza, where the the 30-year-old man was shot and killed.”
The Hawks officer later handed himself over to the police, Raburabu said.
