Residents of Ga-Rankuwa vandalised municipal property as their service delivery protest continued on Wednesday.
They set a guardroom in Spoorview alight and attempted to set a community hall alight as well.
The protest started at around 03:00 as angry protesters barricaded streets with rubble, bricks and burning tyres.
The protesters torched a security control room and a wooden platform they found in the hall.
One community leader, Thabang Molefe, said the violence would not have happened had the councillor delivered on his promises.
Molefe said the protesters had a meeting with the councillor on Monday, but the feedback he gave was not what they had expected.
“The councillor is not taking us seriously, therefore we will continue striving for our demands,” he said.
The residents said their patience was wearing thin following a series of broken promises.
Earlier on Wednesday, police said they were called in to disperse a crowd of people who were planning to set the municipal building in Zone 1 alight.
The residents complained that they had lived in the township for more than 20 years and the roads were still not tarred.
