Racist road rage in the north
A 21-year-old man was arrested for smashing the windows of a magistrates car, while calling him the k-word.
A 21-year-old man was arrested in Montana this week after he smashed the windscreen of a magistrate while yelling the k-word.
Police spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu said the road rage confrontation ensued after the Randfontein magistrate, Mphafolane Koma, overtook the attacker on Monday.
“As Koma moved to the right lane, he noticed another car behind him with the driver showing him the middle finger.”
He said the man overtook Koma and stopped in front of him.
He jumped out of his car, took a hammer and started smashing Koma’s windscreen and windows while calling him the k-word, Mngomezulu said.
“The man was arrested for malicious damage to property and crimen injuria.”
He appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court shortly afterwards.
He remained in police custody and would be back in court for a bail hearing next week.
Mngomezulu was not immediately able to give the man’s full name, revealing only that his surname was Vermaak.
Koma was reportedly with his 12-year-old daughter at the time of the attack.
He said he did not know the man who attacked him.
