Three men were arrested when they were caught with a large rhino horn and an unlicensed firearm at Klaserie Nature Reserve on Tuesday.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto, the three were caught after rangers in the park heard a gunshot at around 14:00.
“The rangers rushed in the direction of the shot,” she said.
“They found tracks, which they followed. Eventually they came across the three men, apprehended them, and called in police to arrest them.”
The three were in possession of an unlicensed rifle, six rounds of ammunition and a rhino horn.
All three appeared in the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, a poached rhino horn and for illegal hunting.
