Ward councillor denies conspiracy to commit murder charges
Mabopane, ANC ward councillor says there are people who are trying to frame him with conspiracy to commit murder charges.
Troubled ANC ward councillor Joel Sindane has denied links to charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
Sindane, the ward councillor of ward 21 in Mabopane, told Rekord this week there was a group of people out there to frame him and bring him down.
He was arrested at his Mabopane home on 15 March and taken to Pretoria North police where he was charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
This was after police received a tip-off concerning an alleged hit list containing names of several people who were supposed to be killed.
“They tried to make up this case back in 2012, but their lies failed to stick. Why bring it all up now? These are people who are angry and bitter, and have a personal vendetta against me,” said Sindane.
He appeared in court on 17 March and his case was postponed to 14 April and again postponed to 17 May.
He said there was a group of bad elements who claim to be members of the ANC who would like to kick him out.
“They have not hidden their hatred against me. They hate me because they want my position. They hate me because I am a Ndebele and they feel I do not belong in Mabopane,” he said.
Sindane said he has opened a case of assault against the same group of people who are trying to bring him down.
“They came to my office where they beat me up. I know their names. The police have their names,” he said.
Sindane is out on R3 000 bail after appearing in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court recently.
The ANC has refused to act against him saying they will only do so after he has been found guilty by a court of law.
According to police, Sindane was the second suspect to be arrested in connection with the list.
The hitman whose name is known to Rekord was the first to be arrested.
The first suspect was arrested on 3 November last year, and charged with conspiracy and incitement to commit a serious crime.
