Family in the dark after murder
Grieving family of murdered Mnandi father get no answers from police.
The family of a man killed in Mnandi a month ago are yet to hear from the police investigating the murder.
Mathew Morgan (43), was shot dead on 15 April in what appears to have been a botched robbery on the smallholding where he lived.
His brother Nicholas said the family was trying to keep strong, but life was difficult.
The family had not heard anything from the Olievenhoutbosch police or detectives since an initial message with the case number.
“To make matters worse, the telephone number the police added to the message just goes through to some engineering company,” said Nicholas.
When Rekord phoned the number, it went through to Eagleburgmann Engineering, which specialises in sealing solutions.
Nicholas said the police’s tardiness was frustrating.
Olievenhoutbosch police could not be reached for comment.
Mathew had just dropped off his children around 19:45, for a movie night at his father’s house on the same smallholding.
The children and Mathew’s father Douglas (72), were in the house when they heard the sound of shots gunfire around 20:15.
Other residents living on the smallholding came running out and saw several men running towards the fence. They were shot at as well.
No one else was injured.
