Police nab several in operation
Police and policing forums took to the streets to fight crime on Friday.
Several people were arrested in a search and seizure operation in Pretoria East on Friday.
Silverton police, the K9 unit and the Silverton community policing forum took to the streets in a campaign to rid Silverton of crime.
Police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said five men linked to the robbery of a residence in Nellmapius recently were arrested.
“Police arrested five men in possession of stolen cellphones and money. The cellphone owner traced his stolen cellphone and led police to the men, who were near a shopping complex in Pretoria Street in Silverton,” said Sepato.
A suspected drug dealer in possession of dagga was apprehended in Plantation Street.
“Dagga was found in the man’s possession, which we believe he was selling,” said Sepato.
He said this was followed by the arrests of four men in possession of dagga near Plantation and Moreleta streets.
Another man was apprehended not far from the Silverton police station after he was found to be in possession of tools to break into cars.
“The police found a car-remote control signal jamming device in his possession,” said Sepato.
He said the police also evacuated illegal squatters from the corner of Moreleta and Plantation streets.
He said all those arrested would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court this week.
