Case postponed against man involved in police shootout
The case against a man involved in a shootout with police continues.
The case against a man who was recently involved in a shootout with the police, has been postponed.
Blessing Makokoane and an accomplice, believed to be his brother, were involved in a high-speed chase with the police east of Pretoria three weeks ago.
The shooting ended when Makokoane’s accomplice, who was the driver of the car, was fatally wounded after he had turned into a dead end road.
Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said Makokoane, who is in his 20s and is from Meyerspark, briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court last week Thursday.
His case was postponed to 14 June.
“He faces three charges: possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of illegal substances and attempted murder,” said Sepato.
Sepato said the two men caught officers’ attention when they sped past a police van in a VW Polo on Simon Vermooten Road.
Police immediately gave chase and a shootout ensued.
Sepato said the men opened fire in an attempt to evade police and the police retaliated.
Sepato said a revolver, dagga, and bullets were found in the vehicle.
