The youth takes a stand against crime
Young people visited Villieria police station to learn more about crime prevention.
Young Moot residents visited Villieria police station at the weekend to show support to the police in the fight against crime.
Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said 15 youths of the Dutch Reformed Church in Villieria treated the police to hot chocolate and muffins during the visit.
The youngsters learned about crime prevention, how to report crimes and about the youth desk forum at the station, which they signed to become a part of.
Brits said the evening was very successful.
“By initiating these events, better communication between the youth and the police can be established. This can play a vital role in crime prevention in the area,” she said.
She said the police needed the youth to stand together against crime.
Brits invited all young people in the Villieria area to attend a campaign against crime on 18 June at 09:00, at the Jack le Roux rugby stadium in East Lynne.
She invited attendees to bring picnic baskets and blankets as there will be a picnic after the official business.
“Although it will be a fun-filled event, all young people will be given time to sign up for the youth desk established in the area,” said Brits.
She said the desk was open to any young person who wanted to make a change in their community and their own lives.
“The youth crime desk is a way to mobilise young people to voluntarily assist the police to prevent crime and create a safer environment for kids and students,” she said.
