Three arrested for possession of drugs

Three people were taken into custody after Sinoville police found 2,9kg of dagga.

Sinoville police arrested two men and a woman on Monday, for possession of dagga.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the police received a tip-off from a member of the public about the suspects and the drugs in their vehicle.

“The suspects’ vehicle broke down and they called a mechanic to assist them,” said Van Dyk.

“While the mechanic was working on the vehicle he noticed a hidden compartment under the vehicle containing unknown substances wrapped up in plastic.”

The man called the police to inform them what he had seen, and investigating teams tracked the suspects down and arrested them.

“The vehicle was searched and 10 arms of dagga wrapped in plastic, weighing 2.9kg, were found and confiscated,” said Van Dyk.

Sinoville station commander Colonel Ramakamakama Johannes Kekana thanked the informant for his assistance and information that led to the arrest.

He said with the community’s help, the police could keep the streets and area safe from criminals.

He also thanked the police officers responsible for the arrest and recovery of the drugs.
