Three Pretoria kidnappers granted bail
Three Pretoria were men granted bail in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court for the kidnapping of Anisah Moosa.
The family of Anisah Moosa (36) has criticised the decision to grant bail to three Pretoria men accused of her kidnapping.
The men appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, and are linked to other cases of kidnapping, robbery and the attempted murder of three police officers.
Samuel Kabo (28), Masilo Gafane (33) and Benny Mudau (34) allegedly kidnapped Moosa in March, outside her uncle’s home in Nirvana, Polokwane.
They had demanded a R3-million ransom.
Moosa was freed by the police three days later, after a shootout with the three men during a raid.
All three men were injured in the shootout and were arrested.
Hundreds of protesters, joined by members of the ANC and the DA, gathered outside the court building chanting “no bail for kidnappers” and “we want justice”.
“We [the family] are disappointed that the magistrate granted bail of R10 000 to each of the three men,” said Yusuf Abramjee, family spokesperson and anti-crime activist.
He said the family had no option but to respect the court’s decision.
“We now look forward to the speedy finalisation of the trial. We want to see justice take its course,” he said.
Abramjee said the family remained hopeful that the police would make further arrests soon.
“The family is grateful to the community of Limpopo and Polokwane in particular for the support it received from the first day,” he said.
“United we stand. We must continue to stand up against crime and make our voices heard,” said Abramjee.
He said the family understood bail was a process but they believed that for such serious crimes, the men should not have been granted bail.
“We do remain hopeful the law is going to come down hard on those responsible for a series of violent crimes,” said the family.
Moosa was recovering well from her ordeal and again thanked South Africans for their ongoing support.
