Roof collapse victim speaks out
The Steers roof collapse happened in two stages, said the victim.
A man has given a first-hand account of the Steers roof collapse over the N1 north Polokwane highway.
The collapse happened on Friday.
David Maluleko said he was at the restaurant with a business associate when the roof collapsed.
Maluleko said the roof collapsed in two stages.
“The roof first collapsed near the kitchen area,” said Maluleko.
He said the collapse forced staff to move to the restaurant’s dining area, where the second collapse occurred.
“The roof gave and it was pandemonium. Everyone panicked and headed for the exit,” said Maluleko.
“I took cover under a table, but part of the ceiling fell on top of me,” he said.
Maluleko was taken to Montana hospital with a concussion.
Maluleko said about 10 people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The N1 north to Polokwane was cleared after the roof collapsed.
