SA woman dies after summiting Mount Everest
A woman, who matriculated in Pretoria, died while climbing Mount Everest.
A South African-born woman died after summiting Mount Everest on Saturday.
Maria (34) and her husband Gropel, who are both experienced climbers, jetted off to Nepal last month to conquer the world’s highest mountain.
Maria reportedly said she felt weak when she returned to camp. She died shortly thereafter due to altitude sickness.
Gropel was also believed to be suffering from altitude sickness.
Eric Arnold, who was also on the trip with Maria and Gropel, died on Friday. This was also as a result of altitude sickness.
Maria matriculated from Garsfontein High School and had taught finance at Monash University in Australia since 2006.
