NEWSFLASH: Three buses torched during protest
Police are warning motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes instead.
Three buses were set alight in Hammanskraal during an anti-eviction protest on Monday.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said violence broke out as people occupying land illegally resisted being removed.
Moremi said buses were burnt and cars stoned as angry protesters took to the streets.
Their shacks were illegally erected in different areas of Suurman, Kanana, Sekampaneng and near the Jubilee Mall.
Red Ants security guards were dispatched to the area to remove people from their shacks.
Moremi said: “Right now, the situation is under control. Several people have been arrested and detained at Temba police station. We are keeping a close watch.”
Moremi advised motorists to avoid the area.
