Couple hijacked in Sunnyside
“Motorists who come to Sunnyside at night need to be vigilant when at night, they should always park their cars inside instead of outside because they can easily be hijacked".
A couple was hijacked at gunpoint in Sunnyside on recently night.
Police spokesperson sergeant Asnath Malatsi said this happened around 21:30 on Saturday on the corner of Leyds and Pretorius streets.
“The man was in his Audi A4 with his girlfriend, whom he was visiting, when three men hijacked them at gunpoint,” Malatsi explained.
The car’s tracker device was removed by the hijackers and the couple was thrown into a white Polo GTI.
“The hijackers went to an ATM and withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from the man’s bank account,” Malatsi said.
“The hijackers took their shoes, sunglasses, two cellphones and R400 from them. They dropped the couple in bushes in Boksburg before driving off.”
The pair walked to a nearby Engen garage where they were directed to a nearby police station.
Malatsi said the couple laid charges and were taken back to Sunnyside.
The vehicle had not been recovered and no arrests had been made.
“Anyone with information can contact the Sunnyside police station”, Malatsi said.
Malatsi urged the public to park inside flats or at a safer place when visiting someone in Sunnyside at night.
“Motorists should always park their cars inside instead of outside because they could easily be hijacked.”
