Hijacked woman’s car recovered
The 77-year-old's was unharmed but still in shock after her hijacking ordeal.
An elderly woman’s car has been recovered after it had been hijacked in Pretoria West on Monday.
Area Patrol Unit (APU) spokesperson Atrichia E’Silva said the vehicle was recovered in Atteridgeville on Monday afternoon by police and the APU.
The hijacking took place around 11:15 in Vink Street, Kwaggasrand.
“Ms Venter (77) said she parked her car outside the yard to unlock her gate. As she unlocked the gate, two men stopped in front of her,” said ESilva.
One man jumped into her car while the other distracted her.
“Ms Havenga, a resident, heard the old lady scream and she immediately called for help,” she said.
The APU responded quickly and tried to chase the vehicle, but was unsuccessful to catch up.
ESilva said the woman was unharmed during the hijacking.
“A few hours later, Ms Venter’s vehicle was spotted by police in Maunde Street, Atteridgeville. The vehicle was still in good condition but Ms Venter’s handbag and cellphone were missing,” she said.
Pretoria West police could not be reached for comment by the time of publishing.
