Four men arrested for copper cable theft
Tshwane metro police have intensified the fight against cable thieves.
Four men were arrested in Mabopane on Thursday for copper cable theft.
Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the suspects were arrested at Boekenhout in Mabopane Block A.
The four suspects, aged 20, 25, 26 and 38, were caught by the metro police who were doing a routine patrol in the area.
“The suspects were skinning the cables before taking them to a scrap metal yard where they are weighed for cash,” said Mahamba.
The cables were seized and the suspects were detained at Loate police station.
“Part of the investigation will be to determine where the cables were stolen, the extent of the damage and their worth,” said Mahamba.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon, but investigation into the matter continues.
