Death of man found with gunshot wound investigated

A 75-year-old man was found dead in his bathroom on Wednesday morning.

Police have opened an inquest into the death of a 75-year-old man who was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body in his home in Mamelodi East, Section Garden, on Wednesday morning.

According to the Athlenda Mathe, of Netcare 911, paramedics found the man in the bathroom with a fatal gunshot wound.

“The man was already dead,” said Mathe.

Mamelodi East police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe said an inquest was opened and the police were investigating.

“The family said they heard a gunshot in the morning and found that the man had shot himself in the bathroom with his firearm,” said Mbewe.

The firearm was found next to the body.
